We tried to keep this apartment as authentic as possible.
You will be staying in a truly genuine XVIIIth century apartment.
Well, maybe that is not 100% true - we added a bathroom, a shower, along with a few other modern commodities!
But we did keep the style of the Portuguese 'Pombaline' architecture in the details. The tiled walls, the incredible wide acacia floor boards. The peach-pine doors, the oak and chestnut wood shutters are almost 300 years old.
DETAILS DO MATTER TO US
We designed the wool rug for the living room.
The obsessive pattern composed the flooring of old buildings' entrances though traditionally meant to be made out of tiles.
This type of rug has a unique stitch from Portugal. It was invented in a small village from the South region called 'Arraiolos'. It is named after that village.
Very gently, we suggested to our mother to make it. It took her nearly two years to finish it.
TIME IS OF IMPORTANCE
Make some toasts in the morning! Chose a Portuguese brand of butter – why not taste goat milk butter?
Cook inside the original stone masonry chimney! Take your time, if it's late, if you feel tired, don't rush.
Glance at the huge Jacaranda tree waving its massive foliage. Notice the particular light of this old city.
Open the bottle of red wine that you picked in the afternoon. Come to the dinning room. Dim the lights.
Break open three different cheeses. Sit down. Enjoy.
SIMPLE IS GREAT
Get into the shower. Face the city view. Let the water pour over your body.
Wave and smile at your neighbours. Let your body wake up slowly.
